IYENGAR YOGA

Iyengar yoga, evolved by Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of astanga yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras.  It is a method known for its use of props as aids in performing asanas (postures), and emphasizes the development of strength, stamina, flexibility and balance, as well as concentration (Dharana) and meditation (Dhyana).  Through the practice of asanas and pranayama it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being.  An Iyengar Yoga class is highly verbal with precise instructions and demonstrations from the teacher, and misalignments and errors are actively corrected.
